Trip Overview
The Rongai Route is one of the least busy and offers a unique approach to Kilimanjaro from the northern side. Starting near the Kenyan border, this route provides a tranquil experience with panoramic views of the plains and offers a gentler ascent compared to other routes.
Itineraries
Day 1
Begin at Rongai Gate (2,000m), hike through forest to Simba Camp (2,750m).
Day 2
Climb through moorland to Second Cave Camp (3,850m).
Day 3
Acclimatize with a trek to Kikelewa Caves (4,200m), return to camp.
Day 4
Cross alpine desert to Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,300m).
Day 5
Trek to Kibo Hut (4,700m).
Day 6
Midnight summit climb to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), descend to Mawenzi Tarn or Kikelewa Caves.
Day 7
Descend back through forest to Rongai Gate.
