Trip Overview
The Umbwe Route is a steep, direct ascent that offers a challenging climb for experienced trekkers. The route is less trafficked and includes fewer amenities, making it a more difficult option, but it’s ideal for those looking for a fast-paced and tough challenge. It’s also perfect for those who thrive in a rugged and less-crowded setting.
Itineraries
Day 1
Arrival in Moshi/Arusha, meet your Rubi Tanzania Adventures team, gear check, and briefing.
Day 2
Start at Umbwe Gate (1,800m) and trek steeply through rainforest to Umbwe Camp (2,900m).
Day 3
Climb to Barranco Camp (3,960m), crossing diverse landscapes and breathtaking views.
Day 4
Challenge the famous Barranco Wall, then ascend to Karanga Camp (4,000m).
Day 5
Trek to Barafu Camp (4,600m), your base for summit day.
Day 6
Begin a midnight ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) for sunrise. Descend to Mweka Camp (3,100m) or Mweka Gate (1,600m) to conclude your climb.
