This itinerary offers a good balance of game drives and relaxation, with enough time in Serengeti to explore its vast wildlife and landscapes and a visit to the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater. The travel times mentioned are approximate and can vary depending on road conditions and wildlife sightings.

Itineraries

Day 1

Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) & Overnight in Arusha

Arrival:
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) (morning or afternoon). Clear customs and immigration, then meet your driver/guide at the airport. Transfer to Arusha (approximately 1.5 hours by road) and check-in to your hotel or lodge.

Afternoon:
Rest and relax after your flight.
Optional: Explore Arusha Town for a short visit to places like the Cultural Heritage Centre or the Maasai Market for some local crafts and souvenirs.

Evening:
Enjoy a welcome dinner at your accommodation. o Overnight stay in Arusha.

Day 2

Transfer to Serengeti – Afternoon Game Drive

  • Morning:
    • Early breakfast at your accommodation in Arusha.
    • Depart for Serengeti National Park (approximately 6–7 hours by road or a 1-hour flight to Serengeti Airstrip).
    • Stop along the way for scenic views and a picnic lunch, or enjoy lunch at a lodge in the Serengeti if traveling by air.
  • Afternoon
    • Arrive in Serengeti in the afternoon and check-in to your lodge or camp.
    • After a short rest, embark on your first afternoon game drive in Serengeti, typically starting around 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Look out for the diverse wildlife that Serengeti is famous for, including elephants, lions, giraffes, and more.
  • Evening:
    • Return to your lodge for dinner.
    • Overnight stay at your Serengeti accommodation.

Day 3

Full Day Game Drive in Serengeti

  • Morning:
    • After an early breakfast, depart for a morning game drive. Explore
    • different areas of the Serengeti, such as Central Serengeti (Seronera) and the Western Corridor. Morning is the best time to see predators like lions, cheetahs, and leopards.
  • Afternoon:
    • Enjoy a packed lunch in the park or return to your lodge for a leisurely meal.
    • Continue your afternoon game drive. The Serengeti is home to the
    • annual Great Migration (if visiting between June and October), so you may be able to witness this incredible spectacle of millions of wildebeests and zebras.
  • Evening:
    • Return to your lodge or camp for dinner. o Overnight stays in Serengeti.

Day 4

Full Day Game Drive in Serengeti

  • Morning:
    • Early breakfast, followed by a morning game drive in a different area of the Serengeti, perhaps visiting the Ndutu or Eastern Serengeti region, which is known for its varied landscapes and diverse wildlife.
  • Afternoon:
    • Enjoy lunch at your lodge or on a scenic picnic within the park.
    • Continue yourafternoon game drive, possibly exploring riverine forests or areas near theGrumeti River, where you can spot crocodiles, hippos, and large herds of buffalo.
  • Evening:
    • Return to your accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay in Serengeti.

Day 5

Full Day Game Drive in Serengeti

  • Morning:
    • After breakfast, head out for another morning game drive, exploring a new area of the Serengeti. Look for wildlife such as giraffes, zebras, and gazelles, and keep an eye out for predators like lions and leopards.
  • Afternoon:
    • Enjoy a packed lunch in the park or back at your lodge.
    • Continue with your afternoon game drive, taking time to enjoy the
    • vast beauty of the Serengeti and its diverse wildlife.
  • Evening:
    • Return to your lodge for a relaxing evening, enjoy dinner, an overnight stay in Serengeti.

Day 6

Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater – Game Drive in Ngorongoro Crater – Overnight in Karatu

  • Morning:
    • After breakfast, depart for Ngorongoro Crater (approximately 4 hours by road).
    • Arrive at Ngorongoro Crater and descend into the crater for a half-day game drive. The Ngorongoro Crater is often referred to as the "Garden of Eden," home to an incredible concentration of wildlife, including elephants, lions, buffaloes, zebras, and black rhinos.
  • Afternoon:
    • Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the crater, with a stunning view of the surrounding landscape.
    • After lunch, continue your exploration of the Crater, possibly visiting the Lake Magadi area where you can spot flamingos, and continue your wildlife viewing.
  • Late Afternoon:
    • Ascend from the Crater and drive to Karatu (about 30 minutes from the Crater rim). Check-in at your accommodation for an overnight stay.
  • Evening:
    • Enjoy dinner at your lodge in Karatu and relax after an exciting day of game viewing.
    • Overnight stay in Karatu.

Day 7

Departure or Extension

Morning:
After breakfast, depending on your departure time, you can either relax at your accommodation or take a short tour of the Ngorongoro Highlands for additional scenic views.

Afternoon:

If you're returning to Arusha or heading to Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO) for your flight, it will take approximately 3-4 hours to reach the airport from Karatu.

Evening:
Departure from Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO) or continue with an extension if you to visit more destinations in Tanzania.
